Arun the Pseudo-bibliophile
I like books a lot. Books are probably more evil than television in terms of the time they take up from your life, but I'm addicted beyond recovery. One of my all-time favourites is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. If you haven't read it yet, you might consider giving it a shot. I can't guarantee that you'll like it, but it's worth reading anyway. If you have read the book, there's a whole community dedicated to the Metaphysics of Quality at www.moq.org. Being a student, I particularly liked a particular essay titled Student Life and Other Contradictions.
I've put up my dinky little book-list up here. I hope to grow this immensely in due time.
The genres of books I read is very limited - mostly Science Fiction and Fantasy. I used to read a lot of popular fiction, but now I only read those when I have nothing else to read.
Recommended reading in Science Fiction include:
- Isaac Asimov. Particularly the Robot and Foundation series.
- Larry Niven's Ringworld series.
- Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's positively hilarious.
- Arthur C. Clarke's Rama and Odyssey series.
And for Fantasy:
- Terry Pratchett. Guaranteed to make any SF/F reader die from laughing.
- Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.
- J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Who can forget the Master?
- David Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean. I've still to read Mallorean, though.
- Janny Wurt's series, The War of Light and Shadow.
And here's some other stuff I liked:
- Joseph Heller's Catch-22. I've read it too many times for my own good.
- Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird.
- J.D. Salinger. All his books are just amazing.
- The script of the movie - Annie Hall. Reminded me of J.D. Salinger's writing.
